Let’s Talk about stress

09 October, 2015

Feeling stressed or anxious? Help is at hand in the shape of a new free service. Let’s Talk stress control groups, run by City Health Care Partnership CIC, are open to anyone aged 18 or over who feels they are suffering with stress or other common problems like depression or anxiety.

Adam McGowan is a cognitive behaviour therapist (CBT) who runs the sessions and he explained how the groups work. “Anyone with a Hull GP who thinks stress control would help them can simply ring and book a place. The groups take place in venues across the city and consist of four sessions that aim to give learners an understanding of CBT and techniques they can use to control stress, low mood and anxiety.

“Problems like these can affect people’s quality of life at work and at home and we teach them to recognise the signs and symptoms of stress-related problems, how they develop and coping strategies for reducing stress and improving mood.

“As part of World Mental Health Day on 10 October, we wanted to make people aware that help is there for them and that they don’t have to try and cope alone.”

One person who attended the course said, “The classes have helped me understand and cope with my anxiety and have given me hope that I can make my life better.” Another said, “The information I have gained from the course has made me a happier person which has greatly improved my quality of life.”

To book your free place, ring 01482 335627 or 335629 between 8.30am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. If you live in the East Riding, you can ask your GP to refer you to Stress Control or ring 01482 301701 to be referred through the Single Point of Access.
