What’s your status?

18 November, 2015

It’s European HIV and hepatitis testing week from 20 to 27 November and City Health Care Partnership CIC’s (CHCP CIC) sexual health outreach team are taking the word on the streets across the East Riding.

At least one in three of the 2.5 million people living with HIV in Europe are unaware that they are HIV positive. Half of those who have HIV are diagnosed late, which delays access to treatment. The organisation ‘HIV in Europe’ has called on the European community to increase awareness about the benefits of HIV and hepatitis testing, so that people know about their risks, understand that there is effective treatment available and are aware of their HIV and/or hepatitis status.

It’s much better to know your status as soon as possible because today people living with HIV and/or hepatitis B can live longer, healthier lives if treatment starts early; people with hepatitis C can be cured.

CHCP CIC provide sexual health services in the East Riding and are running roadshows throughout the week for residents to drop in and get information, condom packs and testing kits. Some venues will also be offering on-the-spot screening including testing for hepatitis B and C.

Just come along and have a chat with our friendly team. You can also request a home-testing kit by going to www.ruclear.co.uk/take-a-test or text CLEAR to 61825 (normal network rates apply).
