Respite for Carers
Respite care is a temporary arrangement to allow the main carer of someone to have time off for whatever reason. If you’re looking after someone, occasional breaks are absolutely essential to your wellbeing and health. Carers often use respite care to access their own health appointments, go shopping, engage in a much-loved hobby, spend some time with family or friends or have some much-needed time to yourself.
What can respite include?
Respite can include a number of things which include:
- Sitting services, where someone comes to your home for a couple of hours to care for the person you look after during the day.
- Access to the Annual Direct Payment For Carers Grant – available to carers to spend on respite (eligibility criteria applies)
- Information, Advice & Support on accessing respite/package of care from the local authority.
- Access to Befriending services.
How can I access respite support?
If you are aged 18 years or over and support a loved one, family member or friend who could not otherwise manage without help and who lives within the Hull Local Authority city boundary or has a GP in Hull.
We offer a comprehensive Carer Assessment resulting in information on your entitlements and identify respite support available to you and the person/s you care for.
