Apollo Athletics: July 2021

Apollo Sports Club where awarded £970 funding to go towards our disability athletics sessions.

Our sessions were a great success, and the funding has enabled us to carry on our sessions for future with the demand from our athletes.

These sessions enable athletes from all backgrounds the chance to take part in sports. Athletics is a great sport for inclusion as it includes a lot of different events from running, jumping and throwing.

During covid most people with disabilities where considered high risk and had to shield through most of the pandemic, this led to some not being able to go outside to keep fit and healthy which in turn also led to an adverse effect in their mental health.

CHCP helped contribute towards our sessions which where 12 weeks of divided running, jumping and throwing, with a competition on the 13th week

The funding has helped our club grow and off the back of our recent sessions we can confirm we are now going to offer wheelchair based sessions on a different day too.

We would like to thank CHCP for helping contribute to our sessions and acknowledging that sports should be for everyone!

“Apollo Athletics started delivering sessions to AL’s ARC members in early 2020 and our members are thriving. Joey has an affinity with disability which projects in how well he delivers his sessions. The sessions are well planned and all -inclusive which is something that has been lacking in sport through time.

It has been amazing watching our members learn new skills, become more active but most importantly be given the opportunity to access such a fantastic sport. The sessions prompted our members to follow the Paralympics and complete educational work on the history of athletics. Disability is often a forgotten entity and it is fantastic to see someone so young recognising that sport should be for ALL! When can we book in wheelchair sessions on site?”
