Care services Minister visits healthcare pilot in Hull
23 March, 2011
Care Services Minister Paul Burstow paid a visit to Hull on Wednesday 23 February. His visit was to hear firsthand what’s been happening at City Health Care Partnership as part of a National Evaluation of Personal Health Budgets (PHBs).
PHBs aim to let people have as much control as is appropriate over how their healthcare needs are delivered and are being evaluated in approximately half of all PCTs in England. However Hull is one of only 20 areas in England to be included in an in-depth evaluation.
“The visit provided a fantastic and unique opportunity for our PHB users to talk openly with the Minister about their experiences before, during and after receiving a PHB. This included Trevor who gave an honest account of how a PHB has transformed the care received by his wife, Anita”, explained Stuart Lane, PHB Project Manager
To find out more about Anita’s story you can view a film made by the Department of Health by visiting http://www.personalhealthbudgets.dh.gov.uk/Topics/latest/Resource/?cid=8025
The Minister was also introduced to Danny who has used his PHB to help gain the specific support he needs to manage his health. This flexibility has made a terrific difference to both him and his family. Having the choice on when, where, and by whom he receives his care has been a really positive experience for him.
A final report is due in October 2012 which will help to shape how PHBs are to be rolled out more widely.
