CHCP CIC to continue helping Hull to stop smoking
31 July, 2015
Health and care provider City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP CIC) announced today that Hull City Council have awarded them the contract to continue to provide stop smoking services in Hull.
The new contract is for a targeted smoking cessation service that will run from October 2015 to September 2018 and is worth £1,020,000 over three years.
Carol Waudby, director of specialist services at CHCP CIC said, “We’re delighted to be able to carry on with the successful work we’ve been doing in helping people in Hull to stop smoking. This new service will focus on people living in the eight most deprived wards of the city, where smoking prevalence is highest: Bransholme East and West, Orchard Park and Greenwood, Marfleet, Southcoates East, Myton, Newington and St Andrews. We will also be concentrating on helping pregnant women, those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and coronary heart disease and people with mental health problems to quit.”
The team will be offering a range of services for people over 16, including their award-winning Quit Buddy text service and Quit Online. For those who need more specialist help home visits, group sessions, telephone support and face-to-face advice will be available. They will also be providing training for healthcare staff and those working in the voluntary sector as well as in the workplace and will be working with partners in Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals to support inpatients to stop smoking.
The new service will provide expert advice to the Hull Alliance on Tobacco, which works to reduce smoking prevalence in the city.
Chief executive Andrew Burnell said, “We have been providing an excellent stop smoking service in Hull for the past five years and it’s good to know that our commissioners recognise that. Winning this contract gives us an opportunity to continue our work in improving the health of the people of Hull.”
