City Health Care Partnership CIC are wound care winners

City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP CIC) beat off competition from around the globe to come away with two winners and a Highly Commended at the international Journal of Wound Care awards ceremony in Manchester on 14 March.

The lymphoedema service won the chronic oedema and compression category for best practice and innovation. The service only came into being last year but is already making a huge difference to the lives of people with this debilitating condition. In the first six months of the service, over 160 patients were assessed and started on treatment, transferring their care closer to home. One patient said, ‘This is an excellent service. I liked the intensive treatment that brought my lymphoedema swelling right down, the friendly, helpful staff and pleasant, clean new building.’

The cost effective wound management category was won by CHCP CIC’s community nursing and medicines service, nominated for their wound management supply chain initiative. This has led to improved efficiency and patient care, with community nurses seeing more patients and giving appropriate treatment, better infection control and reducing wasted products, saving resources.

The Tissue Viability nursing team was nominated in the pressure care category for innovation for piloting training awareness on pressure ulceration in residential homes in Hull, to help staff and healthcare professionals to prevent pressure damage to their clients. It was so effective that the innovation was extended to all care homes in Hull.

Senior operations manager Heather Joy, who accompanied the teams to Manchester and supported the applications, was delighted to have their work recognised in this way. ‘All three teams have worked incredibly hard to bring the best possible services to patients. It’s fantastic to have come to an event like this, with people from as far away as Japan and India, and to have won two awards out of the three applications we put in. I feel it’s a real testament to the culture and ethos of City Health Care Partnership CIC.’
