City Health Care Partnership CIC are pleased to be part of a two new exciting guides for mutuals or social enterprises ‘spinning-out’ or emerging from the public sector.
The first has been published by the Transition Institute, an independent centre for research and collaboration, formed to inspire and support organisations and individuals at the cutting edge of forming new public services. CEO of CHCP CIC, and also a Director at the independent Transition Institute, Andrew Burnell explains, “The guide is a ‘lessons learnt’ publication looking at bringing social value into public service spin-outs like City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP CIC), which itself become an independent, co-owned, social enterprise in June 2010.”

The second guide entitled, ‘How to Step Out’, published by NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts), is a practical handbook designed to help those people in the UK public sector who are looking to lead a new public sector social enterprise. CHCP CIC were one of the first organisations of this type, and Andrew Burnell was approached by authors Craig Dearden-Phillips and Mark Griffiths to be one of the expert contributors to the guide.
Andrew says, “These are both really useful and practical toolkits to share the experiences, skill and knowledge of those of us who have already gone through the journey from public sector to social enterprise. I was delighted to be asked to contribute and it’s a fantastic way to share and highlight our experiences in Hull along with other similar models across the country.”
‘How to Step Out’ brings together the experiences of 25 public service spin-out leaders and several commissioners. To find out more about the guide visit http://howtostepout.com/
