Developing Professional Practice
24 November, 2011
City Health Care Partnership (CHCP) CIC is working with Hull University Business School to develop the professional practice and management skills of our managers and future managers across the organisation.
The first cohort of the University accredited programme consists of eighteen managers from within CHCP CIC. Subjects under scrutiny include strategic development, managing performance and resources and change and engagement all within the health management sector.
Jacqui Laycock, Practice Educator at CHCP CIC said: ‘Leadership and management development are much talked about in a health context but few large organisations have invested to develop real organisational change.
‘We know that managers in the health sector need generic knowledge and skills in management, in addition to their sector specific expertise. During the programme the delegates will develop an understanding of the current healthcare context and the challenges we face in the future.
‘Having previously worked with the business school on management training we know that this programme will have a real effect on our organisation.’
The programme was developed following a successful pilot programme last year which worked with CHCP CIC’s senior management team. The final stage of the programme will be group project work which will address real issues and look at developing plans for the future.
Bridget Freer, external business coordinator at Hull University Business School, is coordinating the programme. ‘Over the next six months, middle and senior managers are being presented with a substantial development opportunity. The programme combines practice and theory and a continual focus on the need for the organisation to grow and evolve.
‘Managers will have the opportunity to focus on the issues faced by their organisation to achieve change, while working with academic staff and consultants who have first-hand experience and knowledge of the sector.’
