Double Celebrations for the Queen's Jubilee

City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP CIC) will be blowing out the candles today to celebrate its second anniversary as an independent co-owned, ‘for better profit’ business providing community health care services in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.
The last 12 months have been something to celebrate, with top feedback in the annual patient survey with 98% of patients saying they would recommend CHCP CIC’s services. In this year’s annual staff survey 79% of staff expressed high satisfaction with their roles and responsibilities and the majority (87%) of respondents would be happy for a friend or relative to receive the care provided by CHCP CIC.
In addition, the organisation has expanded through a 100% share buyout of a local community pharmacy “for profit business,” that is now trading as City Health Pharmacy Ltd, a £1/2m capital asset investment to deliver a new Eating Disorders Service in the local area and the transfer of the Community Paediatrics Service from Hull and East Riding Hospital NHS Trust, welcoming over 75 members staff from a variety of services including Sunshine House, which provides respite care for local children.

In the last two years the organisation, our services and staff have continued to develop and grow and everyone at CHCP CIC should be proud of our achievements and the high quality health services we provide in Hull and the East Riding.”
Since becoming a fully formed Social Enterprise Community Interest Company (CIC) back in 2010, the organisation has been working with social ethos at the heart of the services it provides. In addition to providing health services to roughly 500,000 people in the local area, CHCP CIC want to ensure that not only its staff and services benefit from any surpluses it makes, but also the local population and community and voluntary organisations.
This year CHCP CIC has published its second set of Social Accounts, as an overview of the organisation’s performance in terms of our social, economic and environmental activities. As part of its ‘social’ activities, CHCP CIC offers small grants of up to £1000 to support community and voluntary organisations in the area. Since its launch in December 2010, the scheme has awarded a total of £67,855 to 99 community and voluntary organisations in Hull and the East Riding.
CHCP CIC is an employee owned organisation which welcomes all permanent staff to purchase a £1 share in the organisation. Along with the share, comes a sense of belonging, accountability and the right to have a say about the running of the organisation along with the future plans and opportunities.
Andrew continues: “Being an employee owned organisation is extremely important to us, we want staff to feel part of CHCP CIC, being at work is a big part of our staff lives and we want to ensure that the environment they work in offers the best opportunities and that their voices are heard and listened to.”
Developing an independent co-owned organisation is a real alternative to a private or public sector provider of health care, and as such came with challenges and many opportunities along the way.
