End of Life conference shines spotlight on equality

Organisers of a conference being held on Friday 6 October are hoping to ‘shine a spotlight on equality at end of life’. Funded by a Macmillan Cancer Support grant, the conference aims to look at how everyone can have the same access to care and treatment at the end of their lives.
Bev Clark, who works in the Macmillan specialist palliative care team at City Health Care Partnership CIC, said, “As the organiser of the 6th Annual Hull and East Riding End of Life Conference, I’m really looking forward to the presentations and discussions we have planned throughout the day. The conference will focus on how we as health and social care providers can ensure that people are treated equally at the end of their lives.
“It’s vital that the experiences of everyone living with a life limiting condition are taken into consideration. Making sure that no one is overlooked, ignored or poorly treated is vital. One of the core principles of our health and social care system is making the best quality care and services available to everyone, regardless of race, age, sexual orientation, gender or gender identity, income, disability or religion. Yet, according to the Institute of Health Equity health consistently remains one of the focal points of inequality. We need to try and change this.”
The free conference is fully booked, with 130 health and social care professionals from a diverse number of disciplines from Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.
