Fit for the Foundation

09 June, 2014

A group of staff members from City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP CIC) ran the Jane Tomlinson Hull 10k yesterday as part of a bid to get fit and raise money for City Health Care Partnership Foundation (CHCP Foundation).

CHCP Foundation was set up as a registered charity by CHCP to promote and support health and wellbeing projects within the local communities where CHCP provides services, giving grants of up to £1,000 local voluntary and community groups.

In early January the group decided to take part in the run as a way to lose those extra Christmas pounds and start the new year getting fit. For most of the runners, this was their first race of this distance and they are delighted to have completed it.

TB liaison nurse Jayne Storey said, “I had been doing a little bit of running to try and get fit. I go to Parkrun every Saturday and I had already decided that I was going to do the Hull 10k this year, then I found out that CHCP had a team. I hoped it would help raise the profile for organisation as well as raising awareness and money for the Foundation. I thoroughly enjoyed the day; I love running in the warm sun, so Saturday's weather was perfect for me! The Hull 10k is a lovely course, taking in the sights of the old town, catching the lovely cooling breeze as you run along the path on the Humber. It's also nice and flat! It was a really friendly, feel good atmosphere and I’m still enjoying my 'runner’s high!'”

“As someone that had previously classed being ‘on a mission’ as no more than jumping on a treadmill for a 10-15 minute session, in a moment of haste found myself signing up and training to run the Hull 10k,” says employee resources officer Jennifer Holt. “Not wanting to give up on a challenge, this was a perfect opportunity to finally strive for fitness, whilst also raising some money for a good cause.  My friends and family have helped me to raise over £100 for City Health Care Partnership Foundation which really helped to motivate me in my training and spurred me to keep going on the day, in the sweltering heat.  I finished the course a few pounds lighter, a whole lot healthier, 65 minutes and a whole 14000 steps later helping to give my team a boost in the Global Corporate Challenge! I’m ready to do the whole thing again now.”

The runners have collectively raised over £500 to go to CHCP Foundation. Recent groups to have benefitted from the charity are Tweendykes Allotment Society, Holderness Division Brownies and East Hull Amateur Boxing Club.
