Five years of health on the high street
17 February, 2015
Health Central is celebrating its fifth birthday on Thursday 19th February from 10am until 3pm at Health Central and St Stephen’s Shopping Centre. People can find out more about all the FREE services on offer and participate in a range of fun activities, which will be going on throughout the day.
Visitors to St Stephens will be able to take a break from shopping and make their own fresh fruit smoothie by pedalling a bicycle-powered blender; they can check their vitals using the Health Central Well Points and have the chance to meet Roary, the Hull City mascot. A team of health professionals will also be on hand to talk about the range of free services available at Health Central, all designed to support people to lead healthy lifestyles and improve their well-being.
Health Central is right in the city centre, just outside St Stephen’s on Ferensway, and brings together a range of FREE health services under one roof. You can just walk in and find out what help and advice is on offer.
If you’re trying to forgo the fags, City Health Care Partnership’s Stop Smoking team can support you to give up smoking with free services including one-to-one walk-in sessions, practical help and FREE nicotine replacement products like patches and gum. There are walk-in clinics every week day (including two evenings) and on Saturday. No appointment is needed.
Another of the services on offer at Health Central is the new Bitesize walk-in weight loss service. With no appointment required this weight loss service is designed for people on the go and offers 15-minute individual sessions, delicious weekly recipes and a free full colour weight loss guide with collectible inserts offering useful tips and valuable advice.
Ian Leboutillier lost over 20lbs through Bitesize at Health Central. He said, “With a busy life, the easy reach of Health Central helped me greatly, it was the fact that I could turn up any time and get easy-to-follow quality support. I feel much more confident and find it easier to climb the stairs and my clothes fit better. I would recommend this service, health central is so convenient and the staff are quick to motivate you if you get ‘down’.”
Mark Doughty CHCP CIC’s Weight Management Services Development Manager says, “It’s great to be celebrating five years of providing health services in the heart of the city of Hull. We have seen an average of over 33,000 visits to Health Central every year and our dedicated Health Trainers have helped people to lose weight whilst providing information, referrals and signposting to a wide range of services. I think the location of Health Central has been the key to its success over the years and people often comment on how easy it is to access as it is so close to the bus station. There is also no need for an appointment so you can drop in whilst shopping or on your lunch break and get the support and advice you need”.
Health Central is open Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 5.30pm, with evening Stop Smoking clinics on a Monday and Thursday evening until 7:30pm. They are also open Saturdays 10.00am to 3.00pm.
