Get control over your health with the Expert Patient Programme
12 January, 2015
The Expert Patient Programme is a free self-management course for people who have long term health conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), stroke recovery, chronic back pain, cancer, mild to moderate anxiety and depression and is run by volunteer tutors who are managing their own conditions. It is delivered by the Carers’ Information and Support Service, provided by City Health Care Partnership CIC and anyone with a long term condition can take part in the programme, which runs over six 2 ½ sessions.
The Expert Patient Programme is designed to give people more power and control over their personal health conditions. Patients are given ways to help themselves and coping strategies for managing pain and breathlessness, focusing on a real sense of optimism for the future.
One past participant said, “The course was extremely beneficial to me and the changes I will be able to make…are considerable”.
Previous national evaluations of the programme show that participants felt more confident, had more self-esteem and enjoyed the social aspects of the course.
The course will be running from Friday 6th February 2015 to Friday 13th March, 1 session per week at Marfleet Health Centre, Preston Road, Hull, HU9 5HH from 1 until 3.30pm. For more information and to book a place please contact Danielle Mackay on 01482 222220.
