Grab a deck chair and let’s talk about your health

30 July, 2014

“Stop by our British Summertime Health Fair and let us help you take control of your health”. That’s the message from City Health Care Partnership CIC who are bringing an urban beach to Queen Victoria Square in Hull on Friday 1st August between 10am and 3.30pm.

The urban beach, which comes complete with beach hut, deck chairs and a mini-beach, will play host to a summer health fair where adults can talk to health professionals about a wide range of health and wellbeing issues while the kids play in the sand, collect their free windmill and be entertained by face painting, stilt walking and balloon modelling pirates.

City Health Care Partnership CIC wants shoppers, passers-by and city centre workers to drop by and try out healthy smoothies and Tai Chi sessions on offer, whilst also taking the time to talk to a health specialist about their general wellbeing. On the day people will be able to sign up to a range of free and local services without having to make an appointment.

Amongst the services present on the day will be the Hull and East Riding’s Stop Smoking Service, who support people who want to give up smoking with a range of free services including one-to-one walk-in sessions and free nicotine replacement products like patches and gum (NRT).

Specialists from the HealthyRoutes service will be on hand to talk to people about the range of free weight loss services available including Why Weight, Bitesize and Active Lifestyles.

Visitors to the fair can even pick up a chlamydia testing kit and speak in total confidence to an expert about any sexual health issues they might have.

Vicky Sanders, event coordinator, said, “We hope people will come along on the day and enjoy themselves, whilst at the same time finding out how we can help them improve their health”.

The event is free to attend and is open to everyone.
