Hull City Hall joins the fight to protect the nation against Covid-19

10 February, 2021

Hull City Hall became the latest large vaccination centre to be established in the Humber Coast and Vale region as the first vaccinations took place today, 10 February 2021.

The facility, which is located in Hull city centre, is being managed by City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP) and has been provided to the vaccination effort by Hull City Council. It will see a team of 30 vaccinators providing up to 1000 vaccinations per day to the most vulnerable groups of people in our society as identified by the Joint Committee for Vaccinations and Immunisations (JCVI). Over 70s, those working in care homes and health and social care workers within a 45-minute drive of the City Hall will be among those receiving vaccinations at the City Hall.

The venue joins York Askham Bar park and ride in our region and a list of over 100 other large vaccination centres across the country. The large vaccination centres in Humber Coast and Vale are in addition to the five hospital hubs and 32 sites based in primary care locations across this region where vaccinations are being delivered. The NHS vaccination programme, the biggest in health service history, has seen more than 10 million people jabbed in England in a matter of weeks.

CHCP Chief Executive, Andrew Burnell, said: “We are very proud to be playing our part in the national effort to protect people from this virus. I’d like to thank everyone involved in setting up the vaccination centre in Hull; it shows the power of partnership and co-operation in the fight against Covid-19 and I hope this spirit can continue once things start to improve.”

Last week the government announced that over 10 million doses of vaccine had been administered to the population since 8 December 2020. In our region alone over a quarter of a million doses of vaccine have been delivered to those in the cohorts identified by the JCVI.

Beverley Geary, Chief Nurse at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and Senior Responsible Owner for the Humber Vaccination Programme, said:

“The vaccination programme in our region is progressing really well and we are pleased to note that over 300,000 vaccinations have already been provided to the most vulnerable groups in Humber Coast and Vale. Having another large centre in the city centre of Hull will enable us to reach an even greater number of people as we continually expand our programme.

“As we have said many times previously though this will take many months and we politely ask for people to remain patient. Everyone in the UK will be offered a vaccination and when it is your turn you will be contacted by the NHS to attend an appointment. Please wait for your appointment letter, don’t turn up at the vaccination centre or ring your GP.”
