Living wage: giving a fair slice

04 November, 2013

This week is Living Wage week and as a Living Wage Employer City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP CIC) have been celebrating, having a special cake designed and made. The cake itself looked like a giant pound coin and was shared out as equally as possible, with everyone getting a fair slice. The cake itself was made by CHCP CIC staff member, Michelle Middleton.

In attendance to help cut the cake were Dental Support Workers Craig Wolfe and Emma Taylor. Both Craig and Emma have been positively affected by CHCP CIC being a Living Wage employer and were pleased with today’s news that this rate has been increased by 20p to £7.65 an hour.

Chief Executive Andrew Burnell was there to celebrate and to enjoy a slice of cake. He said, “As a social business our staff are our most valuable asset. We want to ensure now and in the future that as an employer of choice, all staff feel they are remunerated appropriately as one of the ways they feel valued.”

The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually, based on the cost of living in the UK. 70% of employers who adopted the Living Wage felt that it had increased consumer awareness of their organisation’s commitment to be an ethical employer.
