Local nurse recognised for developing local training academy

16 September, 2015

City Health Care Partnership’s Macmillan Practice Development Nurse Specialist Bev Clark has been named winner of the Educator of the Year title at this year’s prestigious International Journal of Palliative Nursing (IJPN) Awards.

The awards celebrate achievement and excellence in the work of palliative care, nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary palliative care team and are sponsored by Macmillan Cancer.

Bev beat off two other finalists to win the coveted award through her work developing an ‘End of Life Care Academy’ originally for CHCP registered nursing staff wanting to improve their skills and confidence in this area of care. The academy is now attended by other CHCP CIC health care professionals along with staff from other health care providers within the city.

Bev said, “I’m thrilled and stunned to have won this award. I’m now hoping to use the original academy structure to develop two similar training academies for healthcare assistants and our new Macmillan volunteers.”

Angie Orr, Senior Operations Manager for End of life Care at CHCP CIC explained, “The goal of the academy ultimately has been to improve patient care and Bev has made it her absolute passion. By ensuring our nurses feel confident and skilled in this sensitive area she has been instrumental in making patient care as personal, supportive and positive an experience as it can be, during what is often a very difficult time.”

The awards ceremony was held at The Honourable Artillery Company in the Finsbury Barracks on 14th September.
