New consultant for sexual health

27 June, 2014

City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP CIC) have appointed a new Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health.

Dr Tonye Wokoma was an internal candidate, having previously held the role of Specialist Trainee. Her new role will see her focus on ensuring sexual health services are more accessible to women.

Dr Kate Guthrie, Clinical Director at CHCP CIC was quick to praise Tonye and the importance of her role:

“Tonye is one of the few doctors in the UK who has undertaken further specialist training to deliver women’s health care in a community setting and we are delighted that she has chosen to work in Hull.

“We appreciate women sometimes don’t know what services are available to them or how to access them, especially on sensitive issues like menopause, unplanned pregnancy and other women’s health issues. Tonye will focus on improving access to care so that more women can get treatment easily.”

In the latest annual patient survey 96% of patients of CHCP CIC’s sexual health services rated the care and support they received as either very good or excellent. CHCP CIC have also been conducting the friends and family test within the sexual health services and one patient surveyed said,

“Incredibly personable response to care, I really felt looked after. Can't recommend Conifer enough, they are all wonderfully efficient yet caring staff who clearly have a lot of time for their patients. Such a necessity in terms of health care, I know so many people who have benefitted from this clinic.”

CHCP CIC Chief Executive, Andrew Burnell is delighted to be able to offer such an important role to an internal candidate,

“Having trained with us Tonye was keen to stay in Hull, which is a great asset to the area. She is a caring and determined clinician, who values making sure that the care she delivers is of the highest quality and accessible to all.

“This appointment demonstrates that our continued commitment to staff training and development is paying dividends.

“By retaining such valued staff like Tonye we can ensure that the public who need our sexual health services are being seen by the best, and by people that want to see the wider wellbeing of the local communities improve.”
