A nurse from City Health Care Partnership CIC has won an award from Humberside Fire and Rescue for her work in highlighting the dangers of smoking for people using home oxygen.
Julie Danby, specialist respiratory nurse, won the award for ‘Partner organisation assisting Humberside Fire and Rescue to engage with hard to reach and vulnerable people’. As the clinical lead for the home oxygen service, Julie had the idea of producing a hard-hitting safety film to show people how dangerous it can be to smoke when using oxygen and the potentially tragic consequences for them and their loved ones.
The film itself stars Julie’s mother, Pat, Julie herself and members of Humberside Fire and Rescue.
“I’m absolutely delighted to have won this award,” said Julie. “It was a wonderful evening and such an honour for our work to be recognised in this way. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Fire Service and I hope that the film we made will help to make people who use home oxygen safer.”
