Quick-thinking Tony saves life at Roos School

22 February, 2024

Tony Megson, ex-paramedic and clinical trainer at City Health Care Partnership CIC, (CHCP), sprang into action when someone was taken ill at Roos Primary School in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

“I happened to be in the school as my wife works there,” Tony explained. “One of the staff came to say that a visitor was unwell and would I take a look. While I was examining him he went into cardiac arrest so I administered CPR and used the defibrillator that the school have on site to restart his heart.

“The gentleman regained consciousness and was breathing independently when the ambulance arrived to take him to hospital.”

Tony worked as a paramedic for many years before retiring and returning as a trainer, sharing his life-saving skills with staff across CHCP. Aimee Christian, headteacher at Roos Primary School, said, “We are eternally grateful for the support and expertise given by Tony on this day. His excellence in the field was clear to see and his calm manner ensured that we felt able to support the visitor and his colleagues with confidence.

“He undoubtedly saved this man’s life.”
