The LGBT conference raises awareness in sexual health

The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Conference will be held on the 3 December at the Quality Royal Hotel has been organised by The Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Partnership in association with City Health Care Partnership (NHS Hull’s Provider Services), Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Forum, Hull Pride and Cornerhouse.

To tie in closely with World AIDS Day (1 December 2009) the LGBT Conference will be offering delegates the chance to learn about all the sexual health services in the LGBT community and throughout Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Marek Mironski, HIV Prevention Officer, at City Health Care Partnership comments:

‘This is a great opportunity for delegates to collect information, gain knowledge, share experiences and explore and raise awareness of issues related to the LGBT community and sexual health services. We hope this conference will give a deeper understanding to sexual health in the LGBT community, and breakdown any stigma’s that still exist in wider society.’

Delegates will be offered a choice of five different topics, all of which have been chosen by the LGBT Community. Clinicians from the Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Partnership will present the topics followed by a workshop in the afternoon. They include:

  1. HIV testing/PEP (Post Exposure Prophylaxis)
  2. Lesbian Sexual Health
  3. Sexual Assault
  4. Transgender Sexual Health
  5. Gay Men’s Sexual Health

Local support groups, statutory and voluntary organisations and the LGBT community will be attending as delegates, they will be given the opportunity to look round various exhibitor stands which include Lollypop, Shout, Body Positive, Condom Kiosk, Cornerhouse, LINK, Erectile Dysfunction, HIV awareness and the LGBT Forum.
