Carers' Information Bus takes the word on the streets

18 April, 2013

Care-About is hitting the road to offer advice, support and information to unpaid carers throughout Hull, as the Carers’ Information Bus visits various locations across the city from 22nd to 26th April.

Care-About is an outreach service provided by City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP) as part of their Carers Information and Support Service (CISS). With thanks to generous Big Lottery, Reaching Communities funding, Care-About serves and identifies 23,000 unpaid carers in Hull.

On the bus, the service will be promoting their newly developed carer support appointments and
Carer Assessments. This will ensure that carers and the people they care for are not missing out on support that they are entitled to.

Many people who look after and support loved ones do not think of themselves as a carer. If you support a partner, spouse, family member, friend or neighbour of any age you could be an unpaid carer. Without approaching services such as Care-About or CISS unpaid carers could be losing out on information, support and advice that they are entitled to.

The new Carer Assessment developed by CISS covers all aspects of information, support and advice for carers and the persons cared for. It does not assess ability to care and the assessment is carried out in a confidential space, where people don’t have to worry about being judged.

Beverley Shore, an Outreach Development Advice Worker for Care-About is delighted to be able to offer this service. “We are proud to be rolling out our unique and comprehensive Carer Assessment to ensure Carers and the people they support are not missing out on advice, information and support they are entitled to.”
