Celebrating Caring Callers

The Caring Callers project is run by the Carers Information and Support Service (CISS) in Hull, which is provided by City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP CIC). The project recruits volunteers to befriend carers in the city and also offers emotional support to bereaved carers. It’s a joint project with partners in Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate and Skipton carers services and each takes it in turn to hold a celebratory event in their community; 2015 is Hull’s turn.

The celebration will be a chance for everyone who volunteers for CHCP CIC to enjoy a social afternoon with tea and cakes as a thank you for their valuable work. It will also be open to members of the public from 1pm, for anyone who wants to find out more about volunteering opportunities with CHCP CIC and other local health services.

“One in eight people looks after someone with a long-term illness or disability and it’s vital that these carers get the support they need,” said Eileen Macfarlane, volunteer co-ordinator for CISS. “Our Caring Caller volunteers make a big difference and we want to say thank you to them for all they do. We are also keen to encourage more people to take up volunteering and discover how rewarding and fulfilling this kind of work can be.”

The Volunteer Marketplace will be starting at 12pm on Wednesday 16 September at the Carers Information and Support Centre on King Edward Street, Hull city centre.
