Could you be a Caring Caller?

A brand new service for carers in Hull will be delivered by the Carers’ Information and Support Service (CISS), run by City Health Care Partnership CIC.  CISS has been successful in securing a major Department of Health-funded contract to help and support carers across the city. 

 The CISS Caring Callers service is currently recruiting a team of volunteers who will be trained and supported to give telephone support or face to face visits to carers who may need a confidence boost or help to regain some independence. Another arm of the service will offer bereavement support to carers from specially-trained volunteers.

 Service manager Heather Kelly said, “This service will be heavily dependent on quality volunteers. There are a number of different roles within the service for which people can apply but we are particularly looking for volunteers who are good listeners, are non-judgemental and want to help others in their community.”

 Volunteers will be reimbursed for any expenses they incur and the opportunity is open to anyone, whether they are employed, unemployed, retired people or students, as long as they are over 18 and have a few hours to spare. A DBS check from the new Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) will be required.
