Looking after someone? Know your rights

27 November, 2014

The Carers’ Information and Support Service (CISS) will be holding a coffee morning on 28th November between 10am and 1pm as part of Carers’ Rights Day. Free tea, coffee and cakes will be available as well as support workers on hand to provide advice and information on what carers may be entitled to. CISS is a service dedicated to supporting carers and is provided by City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP CIC).

Each year, Carers’ Rights Day is held across the UK to bring organisations together and help carers in their local community find out how to get the help and support they are entitled to.

There are over 23,000 unpaid carers across Hull, providing support to family or friends who could not manage without this help. This could be somebody caring for a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems.

CISS will be joined by teams from the Department of Work and Pensions who will offer information about carer and disability welfare entitlements, and Stay at Home - Cold Alert Initiative who will provide information on helping keep the person you care for warm over the winter.

Heather Kelly, manager of Carers’ Information and Support Service has said, “Carers’ Rights Day is the ideal time to pop-in to our friendly service and find out what your rights are if you are caring for a family member, friend or relative, regardless of the level of care you are providing.”

The coffee morning will be held at CISS on King Edward Street in Hull and is open for anyone who cares for a family member, friend or neighbour, or for anybody who is curious about someone’s rights as an unpaid carer.
