Lower Limb Service

When you have a wound or break to the skin below your knee, it is essential to get the right care and treatment at the right time from the right people. Some wounds need extra treatment to heal so it's important to seek advice as soon as you notice a problem.

We work closely with Hull University Teaching Hospitals (HUTH) NHS Trust to make sure you are assessed, treated and referred to specialist services quickly and easily.

You can contact CHCP Care Coordination Hub directly on 01482 247111 to arrange an appointment to be seen.  You can also be referred into the service by your GP or health professional.

If your wound is below the blue line, you should ask for the podiatry service. If it is above the blue line please ask for the community nursing or treatment room service.

You will receive care at one of our treatment rooms, or in your own home if you are housebound.

First Assessment

You will have a first appointment to assess you, your leg or foot, and your wound. The assessment will include a review of your past medical history, the circulation in your lower leg and we will take pictures of your wound.  It will last between 60 – 90 minutes.

During the assessment you will have chance to discuss any concerns or ask questions.  You will be shown how to care for your wound at home between appointments and we will make sure you have everything you need to do this safely. You will also be given the details of who to contact if you have any further problems or worries.

At the end of the first assessment we will let you know what we have found and what will happen next. This may involve the need to wear compression stockings or bandages and/or a referral to the hospital for further investigation and treatment.
